Please pray for Gilad Shalit

“Tens of thousands of Israeli citizens stopped what they were doing and observed five minutes of silence – one for every year kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit has been in Hamas captivity - on Tuesday at 11 am,” reports Ynet News, an Israeli media site. “The Shalit family members and their supporters protested outside the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem. Speaking to Ynet, the captive soldier's father discussed the initiative and explained: "One minute for each long dark year that Gilad is alone." Noam Shalit noted that ‘sadly, there is no end in sight to our sorrow….This is just symbolic, during that minute each person should think what it's like to pass a year in the pit of darkness in the solitude and seclusion of Gaza's cellars.’”

Please join The Joshua Fund team in praying for Gilad Shalit, that the Lord would rescue him, and comfort him and his family and his nation. Let us remember the words of the prophet Isaiah: “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for” (Isaiah 40:1-2)

As I write this, it has been 32 hours since all the cell phones in Israel woke us up at 3 am with a very unusual message: We are in a State of Extreme National Emergency. Stay near a place of shelter. All gatherings, educational and work activities are cancelled until further notice. We were told to check that our bomb shelters were prepared and stocked with food and water.
