Sound the Trumpet in Zion

Epicenter Conference 2011 in Jerusalem

“Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of the Lord is coming, for it is at hand.” –Joel 2:1

The deep, insistent sound of a shofar sent a hush over the more than six hundred and fifty attendees gathered for the 2011 Epicenter Conference in Jerusalem, Israel. Already on the first day, there is an air of excitement and anticipation among the many attendees who are already seeing places that up until now have only been words on a page or headlines in the news.

During one of the panel sessions, Joel Rosenberg asked conference speaker Anne Graham Lotz about her overall impressions of the Holy Land, for the last time she was here was when she was sixteen. She shared that the experience literally moved her to tears, for the people gathering in the Lord’s city are so obviously longing to be closer to God.

Sunday’s focus was on walking through the book of Joel. This minor prophet’s message is almost elegant in its simplicity. “The Day of the Lord is coming! Are you ready?” As each speaker took their turn walking through each chapter, the clarion call resounded again and again. These are the last days! Our time is now! Do not be silent! Raise the alarm! “Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe” (Joel 3:13a).
