President Obama Confirms Plans to Visit Israel

The Washington Post reported that President Obama will travel to Israel in March.  The trip would mark the President’s first visit to Israel, and could be seen as an opportunity to emphasize the relationship between Israel and the United States.

Let’s remember to pray for President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu as they plan to meet in the weeks ahead.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority… – 1 Timothy 2:1-2a

The following is an outline of President Obama's itinerary, as reported by Ynet News on February 12, 2013:

Wednesday, March 20th

  • Arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport
  • State Reception, with speeches by President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Barack Obama
  • Reception at President Shimon Peres’ residence
  • Visit to Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum
  • Visit to Mount Herzl
  • Meeting at Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence
  • Joint Press Conference and Dinner

Thursday, March 21st

  • Meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah
  • Examine model of Second Temple Period Jerusalem
  • Visit the Shrine of the Book, Dead Sea Scrolls
  • Exhibition of Israel’s latest developments in the Israel Museum
  • President Obama’s public speech addressing Israelis
  • Ceremonial dinner, hosted by President Peres

Friday, March 22nd

  • Breakfast with Prime Minister Netanyahu
  • Visit Iron Dome battery and IDF soldiers
  • Farewell Ceremony at Ben Gurion Airport
  • President Obama departs for Jordan
