Israel’s is Celebrating 63 Years of Independence

63 is not a likely number that stands out at first glance. But in the eyes of those who love Jesus and Israel, this is a significant number. The anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948 (5 Iyar on the Jewish calendar and observed this year on the 9th and 10th of May) can clearly be seen as the 63rd annual miracle of God. This day holds significant milestones and reasons to celebrate throughout Israel and around the world – 63 years as a State acknowledged by most world powers, but for how long?

However, more vital than world powers acknowledging the nation of Israel is the fact that God foretold her restoration and has established her once again after thousands of years. For many in Israel today, this year may be a milestone marking the death of a significant enemy to Jews and Christians alike, Osama Bin Laden. Or, this might be a year of excitement and celebration as Israel comes closer to seeing major production of her tremendous oil and natural gas reserves.

It is also critical to remember that along with commemorating Israel’s independence, we also want to be very mindful of the many difficulties and struggles experienced by Palestinian Arabs. We must take our example from Jesus directly, who taught in the Gospel of Matthew:

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

When we pray for and bless the Jewish people, we also need to pro-actively pray for and bless the Arab people – loving our neighbors throughout the entire region in very practical ways.

As The Joshua Fund team prepares for the Epicenter Conference in Jerusalem this week, please join with us in prayer and thanksgiving, remembering all the great things Lord has done. We can be assured that God never falters in His promises and the fulfillment of His Word. Let’s celebrate 63 years of seeing the restoration of Israel, but also celebrate our God who is restoring lives in the epicenter region through the amazing love of His Son Jesus Christ.

Zechariah 12:9 … I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications…

Join a Wartime Church Service with Joel & Lynn Rosenberg’s Jerusalem Congregation

As I write this, it has been 32 hours since all the cell phones in Israel woke us up at 3 am with a very unusual message: We are in a State of Extreme National Emergency. Stay near a place of shelter. All gatherings, educational and work activities are cancelled until further notice. We were told to check that our bomb shelters were prepared and stocked with food and water.
