From Blindness to Belief

Israel Tour - Day 6

On Sunday morning, church bells rang out all around Jerusalem, welcoming the faithful to worship. At that same time, members of the Israel Tour were gathered upon the Southern Steps just outside the walls of the Old City. Since the stairs date back to the days of Herod, in all likelihood, Jesus used them when going to and from the Temple.

The pastor of a local congregation of Messianic believers walked through John 9 and the story of the blind man who was healed after washing in the pool of Siloam, located not far down the hill from where everyone was sitting. “And He said to him, ‘Go, wash in the pool of Siloam’ (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing” (Luke 9:7). The message concluded with a call for Christians to pray for the blindness of Israel.

Afterwards, the group proceeded on a tour through the Old City of Jerusalem leading up to the Western Wall (“Wailing Wall”) for a time of reflection; many took the morning’s message to heart and prayed for the peace of Jerusalem.

As I write this, it has been 32 hours since all the cell phones in Israel woke us up at 3 am with a very unusual message: We are in a State of Extreme National Emergency. Stay near a place of shelter. All gatherings, educational and work activities are cancelled until further notice. We were told to check that our bomb shelters were prepared and stocked with food and water.
