Caring for the Elderly in Israel

Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength fails. - Psalm 71:9

Over the past two years, The Joshua Fund has supported an elderly care facility in Israel. While the home works to meet the needs of as many elderly residents as possible, finances are a continued constraint due to the fact that many of the residents being cared for are not able to afford the care they receive. And this is where The Joshua Fund has been able to step in and help, by supplying funds to make sure that those who are less fortunate in their later years are cared for with the love of Jesus Christ.

One of the veteran nurses at the home told us a story of how the Lord has been at work there. “A few weeks ago, the son of one of our nurses was driving his car when he suddenly felt the Lord tell him to look in his rear view mirror. At that moment he saw a car hit a 16-year-old boy riding his bike. The boy lost his leg on the spot. The son of our nurse, who is a medic, stopped immediately and saved the boy’s life with an arterial tourniquet. The boy happened to be the grandson of one of the residents! This dramatic story left a great impression on her and she understands very well who saved her grandson’s life!”

There has been an increasing interest in the home, and because of the demographics in Israel, there will be an increasing need for such facilities in the future. Please be in prayer that the Lord will continue to send new residents and continue to help The Joshua Fund bless this home for the elderly.

As I write this, it has been 32 hours since all the cell phones in Israel woke us up at 3 am with a very unusual message: We are in a State of Extreme National Emergency. Stay near a place of shelter. All gatherings, educational and work activities are cancelled until further notice. We were told to check that our bomb shelters were prepared and stocked with food and water.
