Escalation of Violence in the South

A Call to Prayer

In response to increased rocket fire and violence from militant groups in Gaza on the southern region of Israel, Knesset cabinet member and vice premier Silvan Shalom stated this week that, "The situation is intolerable and we are close to a dramatic decision that would end the bombardment of the south", in essence declaring that direct action will be considered by Israel against Hamas terrorist leaders and their infrastructure.  In the meantime, Egyptian officials have been attempting to persuade Palestinian factions to halt rocket fire on the Southern region, with Israel agreeing to briefly delay expanding their military operations in the Gaza Strip.

Along with these new reports of violence and tension, comes an urgent need to pray without ceasing for the epicenter region.  Please ask the Lord to give wisdom and vision to Israel’s leaders as they consider the best way to defend and defuse the escalation of violence. As we pray for the leaders on both sides of the conflict, let’s also remember that in the midst of all the various political decisions, disagreements and divisions, there are people who suffer. These men, women, children and families want stability, security, peace, and most of all HOPE.

This is why The Joshua Fund exists – to bring hope; to bring expressions of God’s immense love for people throughout the epicenter region of the world.  Some of the key components of this focus include encouraging Christians to:

  • Pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6)
  • Bring good news to the afflicted (Isaiah 61:1)
  • Care for the poor (Deuteronomy 15:11)
  • Be a light to the nations of the Middle East (Isaiah 49:6)

Would you join us in praying diligently for Israel and the Middle East?  Thank you for partnering with us to bring blessings and true hope to the entire epicenter region.

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast… Hebrews 6:19

Join a Wartime Church Service with Joel & Lynn Rosenberg’s Jerusalem Congregation

As I write this, it has been 32 hours since all the cell phones in Israel woke us up at 3 am with a very unusual message: We are in a State of Extreme National Emergency. Stay near a place of shelter. All gatherings, educational and work activities are cancelled until further notice. We were told to check that our bomb shelters were prepared and stocked with food and water.
