The Rapid Response Fund

Thank you, your Christ-centered love provided hope after the explosion rocked Beirut, Lebanon.

One Joshua Fund partner decided to immediately help. From picking up debris and shattered glass, to covering windows with plastic, there will be work to be done for many months, with some 300,000 displaced persons.

Despite the need, there is progress. Our partner shared: “On the second day we helped a man clean his home. It was very chaotic. We started cleaning, and he said several times ‘You drew a smile on my face.’ We covered his windows with plastic sheets; he said, ‘If it wasn’t for you, my windows wouldn’t have been fixed until winter.’ One of our teams went to help clean a restaurant and fix the storefront with plastic sheets.

The owner welcomed us and asked if we could help him clean his house as well. Of course, we didn’t turn him down! Arriving at the home we learned he lives alone and was unable to clean up all the shattered glass by himself. As we were cleaning he shared, ‘My brother used to sleep here where all the glass fell. If he didn’t travel a day before the explosion, he would be dead by now.’”

Imagine the realization that your sibling would have been
gone from this earth had the day unfolded differently. It was a blessing to show the love of Christ in this moment.

Our goal is a Rapid Response Fund of $300,000 to help in future times of crisis, chaos, and panic in the Middle East. We want to help immediately when our partners call upon us—whether from terrorism, natural disasters, to support local churches and pastors continuing to serve in times of crisis, or any other emergency. Through your gifts, our Rapid Response Fund will be there to provide for the emergency needs of our partners, and to mobilize the global church to stand with them in prayer.

This Rapid Response Fund will enable us to be prepared to provide critical resources like food, hygiene, security, and other life essentials, through trusted ministry partners.

Urgent: Surgeries Needed

Ibrahim,* a street vendor from a capital city in the Arab world, was a Muslim and a new father. His life was radically impacted.

Dear Friend,
Ibrahim,* a street vendor from a capital city in the Arab world, was a Muslim and a new father. His life was radically impacted by God’s dramatic intervention to save the life of his son, Sami.*

Sami was diagnosed with a rare and fatal heart condition; local doctors had given up on him as untreatable. In desperation, Ibrahim sought care in another nearby nation where he was told that those doctors were also unable to help. The distraught father then learned of one last place to turn for help: a ministry in Israel, one supported by The Joshua Fund. It was there Ibrahim would ask for intervention.

The ministry team met Ibrahim, his wife, and Sami in the hospital in their home city. Doctors discovered that Sami needed heart surgery within one or two days, or he surely would not survive.

Life-saving surgeries such as this could easily run into the tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, of dollars! However, through the special work of our partner, we were able to have this surgery done at a dramatically reduced cost—close to $5,000!

Another obstacle to this emergency surgery was the needed visa required to enter Israel, which normally takes three weeks to receive. There would also be significant travel costs, and there were no guarantees of a successful surgery. Instead of giving up, The Joshua Fund’s ministry partner turned to prayer by Sami’s hospital bed, and humbly asked God to open the way. Shockingly, the Israeli authorities called just moments before the start of their Sabbath to say they would issue an emergency travel visa! The family traveled the next day.

Prayers were answered! The surgery was successful, the family’s needs were provided for, and Sami was able to step into the life of a healthy young boy.

Perhaps this is one reason Ibrahim was open to the Word of God!

Ibrahim saw the power of God at work through prayer and the provision that saved his son’s life. "Ibrahim began reading the New Testament diligently while living among our ministry team. He was curious and was always asking questions. Eventually, he declared, 'There is no mistake in this!' and became not only a hearer but a doer of the Word," our partner shared.

Jesus Is Waiting

One TJF supported church in the region recently received this letter from a woman whose life was transformed out of Islam.

The Joshua Fund (TJF) supports many churches, pastors, and gospel workers throughout the Middle East. One TJF supported church in the region recently received this letter from a woman whose life was transformed out of the religion of Islam. Pray for many more souls, just like her, to come to Christ.

“Thank you for proving to me that God can do the impossible at any time. I am a 24-year-old married woman, and I live with my husband. I am Christian in my spirit, soul, and being, but no one knows about it and I can’t let others know lest I be killed. My husband and my whole family are Muslims.
I used to be, but now I am not because of the truth revealed to me.

I was a veiled Muslim while in University before I was married. One day, one of my Christian colleagues asked me to attend her sister’s wedding at your church. I apologized to her that I can’t enter a church, but an idea came to me to go, watch, and make fun of their unworthy speech. I did, and the minute I stepped in the church a strange feeling enveloped me and I couldn’t make a single laugh! Suddenly, I found my feet taking me to stand in front of a picture of the Crucified Christ. I don’t know why tears streamed down my cheeks. Quickly, I moved into an isolated corner, sat down, and wiped away my tears. All of a sudden and unexpectedly I heard a voice saying to me:

‘Welcome! I have been waiting for you all these years. You are in the right place; don’t leave.’

I tried to see who was talking to me, but I couldn’t see anyone. My heart began beating louder and faster. That night the pastor talked about the love of Christ and that He’s our only way out of sin. I found a copy of the Bible on the church’s bench, and I should admit that I stole it to read when I am alone. I did and I liked it very much and it’s still with me. Since that night, I believed in Christ secretly. My family does not know this. I continued to come to church secretly.

Thank you for loving me as a church and helping me to know Christ. Please pray the Lord will help me to live for Christ who met me and whom I love.”

This formerly veiled Muslim woman is one living example of the many hearts The Joshua Fund has the privilege of ministering to, through your support. Thank you for being so compassionate and kind. The Joshua Fund’s Board Of Directors Appoints Dr. Carl A. Moeller As New Executive Director

The board of directors of The Joshua Fund today announced the appointment of Dr. Carl A. Moeller as its new Executive Director.

(Jerusalem, Israel) – The board of directors of The Joshua Fund announced on May 28, 2020, the appointment of Dr. Carl A. Moeller as its new Executive Director, effective June 1, 2020.

Dr. Moeller is a well-known and trusted leader in the global Evangelical ministry world. In addition to serving on the staff of Cru (previously Campus Crusade for Christ) and Saddleback Church, he served as President/CEO of Biblica (formerly International Bible Society) from 2014 to 2017. He also served as President/CEO of Open Doors, USA from 2003 to 2012. Most recently, he served as Executive Pastor at Northland Church just outside Orlando.

Dr. Moeller earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago. He earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Utah.

Dr. Moeller was unanimously elected by the board in March to lead The Joshua Fund, an organization founded in 2006 by author Joel C. Rosenberg and his wife, Lynn. The mission of The Joshua Fund is to “bless Israel and her neighbors in the name of Jesus, according to Genesis 12:1-3” and to strengthen the Church to help fulfill the Great Commission. We do this by educating and mobilizing Christians around the world to pray for and invest in God’s work in the Epicenter.

The Joshua Fund has invested more than $50 million in congregations and ministries in Israel, the Palestinian Authority and five neighboring Arab countries – Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. We have assisted in the establishment of 17 food and relief distribution centers in Israel.

As part of its work, The Joshua Fund leads “Prayer & Vision Tours” to Israel; has hosted “Epicenter Conferences” in the U.S., Israel, Germany and the Philippines; and taken delegations of American Evangelical leaders to meet with senior Arab leaders throughout the region.

Dr. Moeller stated: “Israel and the Middle East are perhaps the most important region of the world. I believe that to fulfill the Great Commission and Great Commandment in the region, walking in full obedience to Christ, we must seek peace, justice and healing through being the hands and feet of Jesus, regardless of the risk, or the cost to us. The Joshua Fund is selflessly leading the way in this– and that is why I am thrilled to join this amazing team.”

Dr. Moeller will utilize his skills in motivational speaking, strategic planning, administration and fund-raising to advance the cause of the Gospel in Israel and the surrounding countries.

Joel C. Rosenberg, the organization’s co-founder and Chairman, said: “I have known Carl for many years and have been deeply impressed with his passion to strengthen followers of Jesus Christ to fulfill the Great Commission wherever they are, even when they face hardship and outright persecution. I believe that Carl is the right man at the right time to help The Joshua Fund continue to be a trusted resource for any Christian who wants to help advance the Kingdom of Christ in the very birthplace of the Church.”

Wayne Pederson, senior vice chairman of TJF’s Board and chair of the search team, said: “Carl Moeller’s global experience, his speaking ability, his positive, and creative forward view, is ideally suited for the current season of The Joshua Fund. Wonderful opportunities for the Gospel are opening up in the Epicenter. These are days to move forward positively with strong passion and leadership that Carl will provide. I look forward to working with him in this new role.”

As Dr. Moeller gets to work on June 1, he succeeds Tim Lugbill who has faithfully and humbly served in various roles with The Joshua Fund since its inception in 2006, first as Chairman of the Board and later as Executive Director since 2014.
