Modern Day Lessons from the Book of Esther

This Sunday, February 24th, 2013 marks the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Purim. Purim commemorates the Lord’s deliverance of the Jewish people throughout the Persian Empire, as recorded in the Biblical book of Esther. Purim is a “minor” Jewish holiday and is named after the Pur or “lot” that was cast by Haman when he was determining the day on which the Jewish people would be annihilated throughout the Persian Empire. Ultimately, it was Haman who met his demise as the Lord delivered the Jews and kept His word to curse those who curse His chosen people. There are many rich lessons to be learned from the book of Esther’s account of the Lord’s work to preserve His people, as celebrated with the Jewish holiday of Purim.
